   The setting is one in which we still use cars on the highway, the streets are clean, and there are still family units, i.e., a mother, father, and two children living under the same roof. There is still no miracle cure for spinal cord injuries, such as Eugene’s paraplegia. Lasik eye surgery is still not available to any and all people since Vincent still had myopia and needed corrective lenses (contacts) to see. Rockets are still being sent up into space for further exploration. But one’s position or social status is determined by genetics that can be manipulated at the time of conception. Prospective parents can predetermine the baby’s sex, eye color, skin tone (such as fair), etc. The lab where conception takes place in a test tube can also eradicate any potentially prejudicial conditions such as premature baldness, myopia, alcoholism, addictive susceptibility to drugs, violence, obesity, etc.
